Faculty Retirements
Professor Emeritus Richard Steckel, a distinguished economic historian, retired effective June 30, 2014. He joined the Ohio State faculty in 1974 and completed his PhD from the University of Chicago in 1977. His research focused on questions of living standards, inequality and demographic issues of health, mortality, migration and fertility. The centerpiece of his work is in the science of auxology, a study of human growth and the recognition of average stature as a general measure of human welfare. In 2009 he was named a Distinguished University Professor, which is awarded to no more than three exceptional faculty per year, in recognition of his accomplishments in research, teaching and service.
On September 1, 2014, Paul Evans retired from the department of Economics. He received his PhD from the University of Chicago in 1976 and joined Ohio State in 1987 as an Associate Professor. Evans has published extensively in scholarly journals on a wide range of macroeconomic topics. During his tenure at Ohio State he advised and mentored numerous graduate students. He served as the co-editor of the Journal of Money, Credit and Banking (JMCB), and on the board of editors of Studies in Economics and Finance and of the Journal of Financial Stability. His service as editor of the JMCB has contributed to the profile of the journal and the reputation of the department.
