Ethan Doetsch, Senior Lecturer in the Department of Economics, received the 2022 Provost’s Award for Distinguished Teaching by a Lecturer. The award was announced to a surprised Doetsch by several university leaders, including Vice Provost Helen Malone and Executive Dean of the College of Arts and Science David Horn, while teaching a class.
Ethan Doetsch is a Senior Lecturer for the Department of Economics at the Ohio State University. He joined the department in 2012 after completing his Ph.D. in Economics at the University of Utah.
His research is in the field of economic history, focusing on labor and demography. His recent work utilizes a newly-constructed longitudinal microdata sample to study internal migration and labor mobility in the United States during the early 20th century. One thread of this research investigates migrant self-selection during the early phase of the Great Migration. Another thread studies veteran migration and mobility after World War I. He is also interested in historical educational disparities, the political economy of the Progressive Era, and the construction of new economic data sets from historical records.
Dr. Doetsch teaches courses in economic history, current economic topics, and labor and industrial relations.
